starting out

I was born in Burnsville, Minnesota. Growing up with my brother Phil we were both very active and driven.

Early on I started in gymnastics and realized through dedication, hard work and determination you can find success. With a rocky home life I found the gym to be a place I could get away and find myself. In junior high school the long hours, cost and sacrifice of private gymnastics was too much for me and my family. After gymnastics I tried many other sports; soccer, softball, golf, dance line but nothing replaced that feeling I had in the gym. At 16 my mother saw this missing piece in my life and enrolled me in a “Women’s Weight Training” class through our local community education center. Although the women in class were 2-3 times my age, this proved to be just what a teenager like me needed to regain her self esteem and drive. It was then and there I fell in love with lifting weights and the mental and physical boost it gave me. I knew that health and fitness would be my career, my passion. I began buying and reading all the muscle magazines and dreamed to one day be in the pages. I also got involved in the local NPC and attended various bodybuilding shows. A seed was planted.

a new chapter

In college I was the fitness guru on campus.

I managed the weight room, was a personal trainer, group exercise instructor, the conditioning coach for the Division 1 hockey team and competed in (and won) numerous triathlons. After college I was a corporate wellness director and toured with a national fitness company. From the outside it looked as if I had it all together, but on the inside my story was quite different. On May 27, 2004 my life came crashing down around me. After years of denial, avoidance and shame, I admitted I was an alcoholic and sought treatment. The experience of getting sober and the daily work it takes to stay healthy allows me the opportunity to relate to and understand my clients, students and friends own challenges. “ All things are possible if we take, one day at a time, one step at a time, sometimes one breathe at a time”.

Once free from the binds of addiction, low self esteem and doubt I found myself back in the gym. I renewed my relationship with the God and worked diligently to make my dreams a reality.

following my dreams

The dedication and the mental toughness it took to succeed inspired me to compete again and to help others lead healthier, happier more fulfilled lives

In 2007 I entered my first NPC show, the Colorado Pro-Am and took home the overall title in my first show! I fell in love with this sport. The dedication and the mental toughness it took to succeed inspired me to compete again and to help others lead healthier, happier more fulfilled lives. Since my first show I have developed a loyal following of personal training clients, figure competitors and yoga students. They say it is my energy, humility, enthusiasm and compassion that make me an inspiration to them. The competition bug hit and in 2008 I took home the overall figure title at California State Championships. Having had success on a local level I was determined to make a name for myself on the national level. Placing 9th at Junior Nationals I was published in a few magazines and more determined than ever to turn pro.  I returned to the stage in 2010 with a rock solid commitment to my goals and to proving that you can achieve that which you believe. I won the overall figure title at the Colorado NPC Mile High and proceeded to achieve IFBB Pro status by winning the figure D class at Junior Nationals in Chicago just a few weeks later.

life as a pro and beyond

Never one to slow down or sit back on my heels, I immediately entered 2 of the largest Figure Pro shows in IFBB history placing respectfully in the middle of the pack

2011 proved to be my best year on the IFBB Pro Figure circuit finishing in the top 10 in all 3 shows I entered. Although I was happy with my placings, I really felt confused as to what I could do to improve and if I really had the look they wanted. In March 2012, I was 3 weeks out from my next Figure show and in LA supporting one of my pro level competitors. It was suggested to me that I was looking to lean for the upcoming figure show and that I should move to the new Physique division. My initial response was “HELL NO”. But after kicking my heels off and playing with the posing I fell back in love with this sport. I decided on Tuesday at 7pm to compete IN 3 DAYS!!! at my first Pro Physique show and I WON! I continued taking this new Women’s Physique Division by storm and took 2nd at the Sacramento Pro and was the overall champ at a stacked lineup in the LA Grand Prix Women’s Physique show. Overwhelmed with such a positive response and with a renewed love for a sport that I had admired since I was 15 years I felt back in the game and honored to be the standard for this new division.

Realizing I needed a new approach and a hands on coach, I hired long time friend and world class trainer, Dylan Armbrust. This proved to be just the thing I needed to stay in the winners circle. 2013 I was the champ at the 2013 Mile High Women’s Physique Show in front of my hometown crowd. I will forever hear the roar of my family, friends and fans. To have begun on that stage just 6 years ago and now to be qualified for the first ever Women’s Physique Olympia was a true dream come true. After a short break, it was back at it and training for the most prestigious title in this sport. Feeling tired, worn down and emotionally drained I fought through to place 3rd place in the world at the first ever Ms Physique Olympia. It was such an incredible honor to stand on that stage with such a distinguished group of athletes. I had pictures of women just like this on my walls as a teenager and now…I was one of those women.

In addition to being an IFBB Women’s Physique Champion, fitness model, emcee and personal trainer, one of my most favorite roles is that of Owner and Competition Coach of Inside Out Personal Training. My path has not been easy yet I have worked hard on maintaining a positive attitude and turning what some may see as setbacks into opportunities and making the most of each moment. I have developed a loyal following of clients and fitness competitors. They say it is my energy, humility, enthusiasm and compassion that make me an inspiration to them.

With over 20 years in the fitness industry I continue to motivate, inspire and educate people to live healthier, happier, more fulfilled lives. I believe true lifestyle change occurs when we get healthy from the “inside out”. Inside Out Personal Training is the result of years of knowledge, experience, sweat and passion for making exercise fun, effective and a lifestyle; while getting RESULTS. I look forward to meeting you and making your fitness goals a reality.
